Both carpenter and cabinetmaker, Eugène Prévost, was the owner of a simple and modest fabrication shop of doors and windows. Within the obvious intent of growing and modernizing his factory, he expanded to incorporate mechanics and explored electric power. In the same process, Mr. Prévost even endowed his village with an electrical network which provided power, not only to his business, but also served twenty-three subscribers. Meanwhile, a friend of his, who ran a public transportation company solicited him to build a bus. Therefore, the following spring of 1924 was born the first Prevost motorcoach which also introduced the beginning of a thriving and still expanding Quebec industry.
Eugène Prévost, a fully French-Canadian “Québécois” from Sainte-Claire succeeded in distinguishing himself. Thanks to his gifted talent, his determination, his temerity and fortitude, Mr. Prévost gave birth to the Prevost motorcoach industry – the same motorcoach brand that criss-crosses all of North America today. During his short but intensive career, Eugène Prévost set down the foundations of a company that was destined to grow prosperously and earn itself a recognition in the North American economy. Continuing his ideal, his successors raised the Prevost brand to the highest ranks of international prestigious companies. Today, Prevost is a subsidiary of the Volvo Buses, whose headquarters are in Sweden.
